Police today (15 December) arrested Awami League leader Haji Iqbal from the Bandar area in Chattogram.
Confirming the arrest, Bandar Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Kazi Mohammad Sultan Ahsan told The Business Standard that Haji Iqbal was arrested at around 6am in a case filed over vandalism and arson attack on a police outpost.
Police produced him before a local court and the court has ordered to send him to jail, he added.
The OC also mentioned that Haji Iqbal faces three additional cases filed with Bandar and EPZ police stations.
Haji Iqbal previously served as the organising secretary of the Bandar Thana Awami League and as the president of the Chattogram Metropolitan Branch of the Bangabandhu Sainik League.
He is also the prime accused in the murder case of Jubo League activist Mohiuddin.
