The authorities on the present time (5 December) appointed Akhtar Ahmed as senior secretary of the Election Commission on a two-one year contractual basis.
The Ministry of Public Administration in a notification said Akhtar Ahmed has been appointed under Portion 49 of the Executive Provider Act, 2018, on the condition that he must step down from every other professions, companies or employment with any authorities, semi-authorities, or internal most organisations.
On Tuesday, Shafiul Azam, who had been serving as the EC secretary, became made an officer on special responsibility. The day earlier than on the present time became his last working day on the EC.
Akhtar Ahmed is a 1982 batch officer of the BCS Administration cadre. He last served as joint secretary (administration) on the Ministry of Housing and Public Works and retired in 2015.
His ancestral home is in Khulna. Akhtar studied Economics at Rajshahi College and pursued further education on the Institute of Industry Administration (IBA), College of Dhaka.
Upon being appointed as senior secretary, Akhtar Ahmed mentioned, “The length in-between authorities has entrusted me with a new accountability. I am hoping to fulfil my tasks on the EC Secretariat with honesty and dedication.”
