5 detained by BGB while entering Bangladesh from India via Sylhet border

The Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) detained five people today (30 November) while they were entering Bangladesh from India through the Sylhet border.

According to a press release issued by the 48th Battalion of Sylhet BGB this evening, they were detained near Sylhet border pillar 1,279/MP by members of the BGB’s Sripur Camp.

Two of the detainees were found carrying both Bangladeshi and Indian ID cards. During interrogation, they confessed to having traveled to India a few days ago for work purposes.

The detainees have been identified as Md Monir Hossain, 26, Md Sabuj Mia, 28, Md Hekim Ali, 47, Md Ujjal Hossain, 18, Md Salek Nur, 39.

The detainees are being handed over to the police for further legal action, the release added.
