44.9% dissatisfied with online police clearance: Survey

A recent survey conducted by the Ministry of Home Affairs revealed that 44.9% of respondents are dissatisfied with the online police clearance service, while over 22% remain unaware of this service. 

Additionally, 32.4% of respondents express dissatisfaction with the emergency 999 service, whereas 56.6% report being satisfied.

The findings, presented today (3 December), by the Ministry’s Public Relations Division, are part of the “What Kind of Police Do We Want” survey.

Key Findings:

 

  • 56% of respondents expressed satisfaction with the 999 emergency call service, a widely publicized initiative. However, 43.4% of respondents either found the service unsatisfactory or were unaware of it.
  • The Online Police Clearance service has not had a significant impact on the public. 
  • Only 26.7% of respondents reported that the activities of the Victim Support Center are satisfactory. Necessary steps must be taken to improve it.
  • Around 44.9% of respondents reported that Online GD activity is not satisfactory.
  • There is significant dissatisfaction with the Women, Children, Elderly, and Disabled desk activities, despite it being a very necessary service. 
  • 72.1% of respondents reported that they were not satisfied with the Cyber Crime Women’s helpline, and some were not aware of it. 
  • The E-trafficking prosecution service is also not satisfactory.

    The survey also highlighted dissatisfaction with mechanisms addressing cyberbullying and cybercrime. Although online systems are in place to support victims, 72.1% of respondents express dissatisfaction or lack of awareness. Similarly, most respondents view the e-traffic prosecution service as unsatisfactory.

    The survey, which included 24,442 participants, revealed that 86.6% of respondents are aged between 18 and 44 years. Nearly 95% of respondents are male. Among them, 36.4% are employed, 27.2% are students, 7.6% are businessmen, and 7.1% fall into other significant categories. Most participants are from Dhaka district, followed by Chattogram and Cumilla.
