2 detained with firearms, ammo in Cox's Bazar  

The Detective Branch (DB) of Cox’s Bazar District Police has detained two men with two locally made firearms and five rounds of cartridges from the Khurushkul union under the Sadar upazila.

A CNG-run auto-rickshaw, from which the firearms were seized, was also impounded during a raid near a fish enclosure in the union at around 10:30pm last night (2 December), said Cox’s Bazar Superintendent of Police (SP) Muhammad Rahmat Ullah today (3 December).

The detainees were identified as Abdur Rahim Prokash Elias, 38, the auto-rickshaw driver, and Md Osman, 54. Both are residents of Ward no 4 under Jhilongjha union.

“Based on a tip-off, we conducted the raid and first arrested Rahim with the guns in his vehicle. Later, based on information he provided, Osman was detained from the Link Road area,” said SP Rahmat.

The firearms and ammunition were recovered from under the back seat of the auto-rickshaw, he added.

He said a case under the Arms Act will be filed at Sadar Police Station.
