Two individuals have been arrested in connection with an alleged robbery and attack on the convoy of central coordinators of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement in Narayanganj’s Sonargaon upazila.
During a raid last night in various locations, two people identified as Mubarak Hossain and Billal Mia were arrested, Sonargaon Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mohammad Abdul Bari told The Business Standard today (10 December).
He said they were sent to jail this afternoon following a court order.
In a Facebook post last night, movement convener Hasnat Abdullah shared details of the incident, claiming the attackers stole their bags and mobile phones.
The OC said today that efforts were underway to recover the bag and mobile phone that were stolen from the vehicle.
“Operation to arrest other individuals involved in this incident is ongoing,” the OC added.
Earlier on Sunday night, at around 2am, a vehicle carrying student movement coordinators on their way to Lama in Bandarban was attacked and robbed.
Arif Sohel, central general secretary of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement, and seven other student leaders were present in the vehicle during the incident.
In protest of this incident, students in Narayanganj held a protest rally in Sonargaon the next day, demanding the arrest of those involved.
They also demanded a thorough investigation to determine whether it was a simple robbery or a planned attack.
